Charity and not-for-profit law sits where corporate, tax, and trust law meet. Getting it right takes more than filling in forms — it takes judgment about purposes, governance, and the obligations a charity carries to its members, its donors, and the Canada Revenue Agency.

Private Church Financing

Financing for churches, without the bank.

Many churches can raise the capital they need from members and supporters willing to lend on better terms than a commercial lender offers. These arrangements work well when they are structured and documented with care, and cause real problems when they are not.
Postell Law acts as legal counsel on these transactions: confirming the church’s authority to borrow, documenting the loan and security, registering the charge, and arranging independent legal advice where it is needed.

Postell Law

Postell Law is the practice of Michael Postell — a lawyer licensed by the Law Society of Ontario who works, first and foremost, with churches. From incorporating a ministry to financing a building to writing the wills of the families in the pews, the firm is built to be the lawyer a church and its people can call for almost anything. Charities, not-for-profits, and individuals across Ontario are welcome too.
The firm exists to give churches something they too often go without: counsel who understands both the law that governs a charity and the transactional work that carries it out, and who explains it in language a board — or a family — can use. As the practice grows, so do the areas of law it covers.
